Forest fire spreads to Kanglung

March 10: (UPDATE) A forest fire, which started yesterday afternoon from Chenari, near Chazam in Trashigang, has now spread to Kanglung. Our reporter in Kanglung says that strong and fierce wind is making it very difficult for the firefighters to contain the fire.

The fire burnt down an automobile workshop, three cars and 25 two-wheelers kept for repair there. It also razed down a saw mill along with construction material, a house and makeshift labour camps at Kheri, about two kilometres from Trashigang town. The fire also partially damaged a store of the Chenari powerhouse.

On command of His Majesty the King, the Gyalpoi Zimpon Office distributed emergency kits to the affected families in Kheri. The affected families were assured government support and assistance.

The fire has now spread towards Kanglung. Public and civil servants in Kanglung are still battling the fire. Our reporter says that because of the fierce wind the situation has gone from bad to worse.

Another forest fire which broke out last evening in Dremetse and Narang has been brought under control. Officials told BBS that rugged terrain and strong winds hampered the fire to be brought under control.

Meanwhile, another forest fire has been reported below Udzorong, opposite to Sherichu. The fire broke out this afternoon.
