Local transport service re-introduced

February 4: It has been almost a decade since the Bhutanese passenger bus service was discontinued along the Indian states of Assam and West Bengal highways. It was done away due to security reasons.

Many passengers travelled on Indian buses, often taking risks on their own. Much to relief of many people, the government has issued directives to re-introduce the bus service with effect from January this year.

According to some of the passengers the re-introduction of public transport bus service via the Indian states of Assam and West Bengal has greatly benefited the people traveling through the border towns of Gelephu, Phuentsholing and Samdrupjongkhar.

In the past passengers had to pay around Nu. 400. But now they only have to pay Nu. 133 for a ticket.
